Face of Medical, we understand the discomfort associated with Tattoo Removal. This sensation will vary from client to client and will depend on their threshold and tolerance for pain or discomfort. At Face of Medical, we want to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.
Face of Medical offer an extensive selection of Pain Management options to assist both during and post-treatment. In addition to this, our team incorporate Relaxation Therapies to help ease you into your treatment including LED Light Therapy and gentle Massage.
Everyone has a different tolerance to pain but let us not beat around the bush. The reality of the matter is tattoo removal can cause pain or discomfort. Most clients will describe the feeling as being flicked with a hot rubber band.
The good news is that Face of Medical have introduced the Discovery Pico Laser Machine to our line-up of industry equipment. This technology is so advanced, it emits light energy faster than any laser available which means that the process is quicker than ever and requires significantly less emissions than common laser machines.
Face of Medical understand that those who are new to Tattoo Removal may be feeling apprehensive and nervous. We make sure our clients are as comfortable as possible during the treatment.
To help subside pain and discomfort during treatment, there are several things we can do which are included in the treatment package.
Next Level Clinic will apply a medical grade topical, anaesthetic cream which is a clinical numbing agent to assist in lowering the pain experienced during the tattoo removal. While your numbing cream takes effect, you will be treated to a relaxing LED Light Therapy Treatment which will help active and support your lymph system.
As a standard process, Next Level Clinic will provide Gel Ice Packs for the area before and after treatment. The Gel Packs will not be available to use during treatment, but upon completion and part of your post-session care, apply one for 5-10 minutes over the bandaged area for relief. Gel and Ice packs work to reduce swelling in inflammation and can be used at home to help after treatment. An ice-pack will be included in your aftercare package.
Those who have experienced the medical gas, otherwise known as the Green Whistle will know that any pain or discomfort will simply disappear. For large areas, our Dr can administer the Green Whistle to selected candidates which will completely block out any pain or discomfort associated with your treatment. Penthrox is a self-administered, rapid acting analgesic agent for short-term pain relief. The Penthrox inhaler is a green whistle shaped single use device that delivers methoxyflurane in analgesic doses. Clients can assess their own level of pain and titrate the amount of Penthrox inhaled for adequate pain control.
Although we have numbing agents and advanced technology available, you may wish to consider an over the counter pain relief such as Ibuprofen. Taken approximately 30 to 45 minutes prior to your treatment it can assist in calming your actual nerve endings, making the sensation from the laser less intense.

In the lead up to your treatment here are our top tips;
It can be especially beneficial to come to your appointment hydrated! Consuming water can help prevent headaches, whilst also proven to assist your body in the process of breaking up tattoo ink particles. Keeping up your water intake post treatment will also assist this natural process.
Have a meal prior to your appointment. Coming to your removal treatment well fed will stabilise your blood sugar level. Having a meal prior to your treatment will lower the risk of light-headedness.
Avoid sun exposure before your treatment. Absorbing UV rays increases skin sensitivity, which can attribute to tattoo removal pain. Similarly, sun exposure shortly after your session can lead to burning pain and scarring on the treated area.
LED Light Therapy is a revolutionary Advanced Skin Treatment that repairs the skin at a cellular level. It also helps to activate and support the lymph system which is integral to helping the body’s natural process of removing the shattered ink fragments from the body.
